We use advanced 3D modelling data from Nearmap to analyse your roof, assess solar irradiance, and identify shading. Where data is available, we perform detailed shading calculations to ensure our quotes and savings estimates are as accurate and reliable as possible. With our market-leading forecast algorithms, what we predict is what you save.
What the 3D Model Tells Us
Our 3D modelling helps us understand key aspects of your roof, including:
Sunlight and Shading: We analyse how much sunlight your roof receives and identify any shading from nearby buildings or terrain that could impact your system’s performance.
Orientation: This tells us the direction your roof faces, helping us determine where to place the panels for optimal sunlight exposure throughout the day.
Tilt: Knowing your roof's angle helps us understand how much solar energy your panels will receive at different times of the day.
Once we’ve gathered this information, our system generates an optimal design for your solar setup. A solar engineer then reviews the design to ensure it meets all required criteria before giving it the green light.
How Do We Estimate Your System's Solar Generation?
To estimate your solar generation, we combine the recommended system size with inputs from the 3D model and run it through a ‘typical meteorological weather year’. This model is based on over 10 years of weather data, simulating what an average year might look like in your area. This helps us predict how much energy your system will generate throughout the year.
By considering the unique characteristics of your roof along with detailed weather data, we provide a more precise estimation than simple size-based predictions.
How Do We Estimate Your Savings?
With the system size and estimated energy generation in hand, we calculate your savings profile using your energy usage data. Depending on the available data, we use either:
Interval Meter Data for the most accurate forecast, or
Representative Energy Curves based on typical usage behaviours.
Our algorithm calculates how much of your daily energy consumption can be offset by your system's solar energy. For customers with batteries, we forecast the state of charge, integrating solar production and battery storage to give you a complete picture.
We project your system production over 12 months to give you a yearly savings estimate, which includes the export tariff paid by your energy retailer for any excess energy they purchase from you. This provides one of the most precise pre-installation savings estimates available in the residential market.
Please Note: All estimates are based on your current energy use. If your energy usage patterns change after installation, your actual savings may vary. If you’re interested in learning about ways to adjust your energy behaviour to maximise savings, feel free to reach out to us!
