FAQs about upsize systems

Modified on Tue, 20 Feb, 2024 at 7:51 AM

The Rebate Swap for Solar program is here to help eligible low income households in NSW reduce their energy costs by providing solar PV systems. The base system offered is a 3.3kW (8 panels) solar PV system with a 2.5kW inverter.

How do I explore an upsize system?

You can email or call us to let us know at any time you're interested in an upsize, and we'll make a note. At your site inspection, you can ask your installer about the maximum panels that will fit on your roof and the benefits for you. The UPowr team will send you quotes for any upsize options after your application for the base system is approved by the government.

What does it cost?

You will need to cover the cost difference and any required variations to install the additional panels safely on your roof. The estimated cost range to upsize from the base system to the 6.6kW system, inclusive of variations that are typically required, is approximately $1,700-$2500.

What is the maximum upsize available?

The maximum of 6.6kW (16 panels) solar PV with a 5kW inverter.

Are there other upsizes available?

Yes, there are four system sizes available. There is the free 3kW system, and upsize options of 4kW, 5kW and 6kW systems available.

Can I get a system bigger than 6.6kW?

No, the Rebate Swap for Solar Program is capped at a maximum of 6.6kW.

Can I get a battery?

No, the Rebate Swap for Solar Program is designed for solar only to reduce energy costs for low income households. It is not possible to add a battery, even if you wish to pay for it yourself.

I want different panel and inverter products. Can I pay for different products?

No. We have carefully selected our hardware to ensure maximum value for all participants in the program and comply with NSW Procurement policy, so it is not possible to offer different products with this program.

When will I receive my requested upsize quote options?

We will send you a link to your quotes after the NSW Government confirms your home is suitable for the Rebate Swap for Solar program. The suitability depends on your energy usage, estimated savings, and the safety and suitability of your home. The estimated processing time is 2-3 weeks after your site inspection day, depending on processing time for the NSW Government review step.

Who can I talk to for more advice or questions about upsize?

If you are interested in exploring whether an upsize option makes sense for you and your energy usage, you can speak to your installer at your site inspection day or call one of our friendly team on 02 8311 7746.
