Welcome to UPowr! We are thrilled to guide you through our process of implementing the Rebate Swap for Solar Program. In this article, we will explain the key steps involved in the customer journey, from the initial Housing Suitability Assessment to the installation of your solar system.
Housing Suitability Assessment
The first stage of your journey with UPowr is the Housing Suitability Assessment. Our goal is to determine if your home is suitable for solar installation, ensure its safety, and calculate potential savings for you. This assessment involves four steps:
Step 1: Satellite Imagery Check and System Design
Using satellite imagery, we will visually inspect your roof to ensure it is ready for solar installation. Simultaneously, our experienced solar design team will create a customized solar system design for your home. We position the panels to maximise your savings by minimising shading losses throughout the year. This design will be based on the assessment findings and tailored to meet your energy needs.
Step 2: Face-to-Face Site Inspection
To complete the Housing Suitability Assessment, we will complete a face-to-face site inspection. Here's the process:
- You will receive an email with detailed instructions on starting your order, verifying your mobile number, setting a password for your UPowr account and selecting your preferred days for a site inspection.
- You will receive an SMS or a phone call from your allocated installer to confirm the scheduled date and time
- During this inspection, our expert technicians will visit your home to assess any safety risks or hazards. They will examine your roof, electrical system, and other relevant factors to ensure a smooth solar installation process.
On the site inspection day, you can ask your installer any questions about upsizing, panel placement, solar hot water system removal or anything else.

Step 3: Government Approval Process
Once the Housing Suitability Assessment is completed, UPowr submits the assessment to the NSW Government for approval. We handle this step to ensure compliance with the program's regulations and requirements.
Step 4: Customer Contract Acceptance
Once we receive the outcome of your Housing Suitability Assessment review, we will send you an email. This will include links back to your final quote and a prompt for you to accept your Customer Contract to start your order.
Note: Upsizing Your Solar System
During the Housing Suitability Assessment, if you express interest in an upsize system (a larger solar system than initially planned), please inform us. You must pay for any additional costs associated with upsizing your solar system. If you select this option, UPowr will ask you to pay a deposit via credit or debit card before starting Stage 2: Installation.
Stage 2: Installation
If your home is deemed suitable for solar installation and qualifies for the Rebate Swap program, the installation process is the next stage. Here is a summary of the steps involved. For more detailed information, see our other support article: What to expect on installation day
Step 1: Prepare Documentation and Stock
After the Housing Suitability Assessment is completed, UPowr will prepare the necessary documentation. This includes obtaining permission to connect your solar system to the grid and ordering the required stock. Additionally, we will prepare all the electrical documentation necessary for the installation process.
Step 2: Installation Day
On the scheduled installation day, our UPowr-certified installation team will arrive at your home. They will bring all the required equipment and materials to complete the installation safely and efficiently. Please keep in mind that safety for you and our team is of utmost importance on this day. In the event of unsafe weather conditions (such as heat, rain, or wind) or unsafe roof conditions, we may need to reschedule or reconsider our installation plan to ensure everyone's well-being.
Step 3: Post-Installation Checks and Quality Assurance
After the installation, our technicians will conduct thorough post-installation checks to verify the system's functionality and ensure everything is working as intended. We take these steps to provide peace of mind and ensure a high-quality installation. UPowr follows a certified Quality Assurance process to guarantee the performance and reliability of your solar system.
Note: Metering
Please be aware that metering, including the connection of your solar system to your energy provider's meter, is the responsibility of the customer. However, UPowr may be able to provide support and guidance throughout this process. We're here to help you in any way we can.
