Follow these tips to get the most out of your solar system and increase your bill savings.
Tip 1: Consider when you use your appliances
Your solar system will generate the most electricity when it is sunny, usually between 10am -3pm. Use your major appliances during these times to increase your electricity bill savings.
If you are not at home during this time, use the delay start feature on your dishwasher and washing machine. On cloudy and rainy days your solar system will produce less electricity, so it is better not to use energy-heavy appliances on those days.
Tip 2: Avoid using the dryer where you can
On sunny days, hang your laundry on a clothes line or if it is a rainy day, use a clothes horse inside. If you do need to use your dryer, have it on the lowest setting and use it between 10am – 3pm.
Tip 3: Use electrical timers
Electrical timers are devices that can turn appliances on and off at pre-set times. The timers are plugged into a power point and the appliance is plugged into the timer. The timer will switch the power on at the pre-set time. This is a good way to ensure your appliances run between 10am - 3pm on sunny days.
Timers on air conditioners can also be used to preheat or precool your home on extremely cold or warm days during 10am - 3pm.
